5 signs your sewer line should be evaluated
A sewer-line problem often shows up as a pattern across the property—not just one isolated drain. These signs do not identify the cause by themselves, but they can tell you when it is time to stop guessing and evaluate the main line with a camera.
1. Multiple fixtures are draining slowly
One slow sink, tub, or shower may be a local clog. When several fixtures begin draining slowly at the same time, the restriction may be farther downstream in the main sewer line.
2. Toilets or drains are gurgling
Gurgling can occur when restricted flow displaces air or when normal venting is affected. When the sound appears at several fixtures or keeps returning, the main line should be evaluated.
3. Sewer odors persist
Sewer odors can come from dry traps, failed seals, venting problems, blockages, or damaged piping. If the smell persists after simple fixture-level causes are ruled out, an inspection can help locate the source.
4. The yard looks unusually wet, green, or sunken
Yard changes can result from irrigation, drainage, soil movement, or other causes. When they appear near the sewer path—especially alongside odors, slow drains, or recurring backups—the line should be checked.
5. The same backup keeps returning
Repeated stoppages may be caused by roots, scale, buildup, offsets, bellies, or pipe deterioration. A camera review can show whether the next step is cleaning, preparation, lining, targeted repair, or another solution.
