The CIPP Lining Process

How an eligible pipe
is restored from the inside

Cured-in-place pipe lining, or CIPP, installs a resin-saturated liner inside an existing pipe and cures it in place. Before recommending lining, we review the camera footage, pipe condition, alignment, access, and repair area to confirm whether the line is a suitable candidate.

01

Inspect & Qualify

Every project starts with a sewer-camera review. We look for cracks, root intrusion, corrosion, offsets, bellies, collapses, pipe material, diameter, access, and other conditions that affect whether CIPP is appropriate. If the line is not a good candidate, we explain the limitation and discuss the next practical option.

02

Clean & Prepare

An eligible host pipe must be cleaned and prepared before lining. Depending on its condition, preparation may include hydro jetting, root cutting, descaling, milling, or debris removal so the liner can be installed against a properly prepared pipe surface.

03

Size, Install & Cure

The liner is sized for the repair area, saturated with resin, positioned inside the existing pipe, and pressed against the prepared host-pipe surface. For qualifying installations, Trusted Trenchless uses Bluelight LED technology to cure the liner at a computer-controlled pullback speed, forming a continuous rehabilitated lining inside the pipe.

04

Reinstate & Verify

When branch connections are present and included in the project, they are reopened using the appropriate reinstatement method. We then perform a final camera review and provide before-and-after documentation of the completed work. Some projects may still require limited excavation or a new access point.

BLUELIGHT LED CIPP TECHNOLOGY

MORE CONTROL BEFORE THE CURE. RAPID CURING AFTER PLACEMENT.

Trusted Trenchless uses the Bluelight LED CIPP system for qualifying sewer laterals and small-diameter drain lines. Its specially formulated resin is designed to remain workable until it is exposed to blue-wavelength LED light, giving the installation team more control during liner wet-out, placement, and pre-cure inspection.

After the liner is correctly positioned, the onboard system automatically controls the LED curing head’s pullback through the pipe. Under qualifying conditions, manufacturer-published performance information indicates that a 50-foot liner may be fully cured in under 12 minutes—up to five times faster than conventional curing methods.

That figure refers only to the liner-curing phase, not the total project. Camera evaluation, cleaning, preparation, access, liner installation, any required branch reinstatement, and final verification still determine the overall schedule.

EXTENDED WORKING TIME

The resin remains workable until the Bluelight LED curing process begins, reducing installation time pressure before the liner is permanently cured.

AUTOMATED PULLBACK

The onboard computer sets and controls the curing head’s pullback speed using the applicable job parameters.

INTEGRATED CAMERA

A camera built into the LED light head supports visual monitoring as the curing equipment travels through the installed liner.

PROVEN AT SCALE

Manufacturer-published information reports 500 systems in the field and millions of feet of Bluelight liner installed worldwide.

Performance and adoption figures are based on manufacturer-published information. Actual results vary by project, approved liner specification, and field conditions.

LONG-TERM CIPP PERFORMANCE
50+ YEARS

OF EXPECTED SERVICE LIFE

A NEW STRUCTURAL PIPE INSIDE THE OLD ONE.

A failing sewer line may already be decades into its service life before the first major problem appears. CIPP changes that equation by creating a new, continuous liner inside the existing pipe rather than asking the deteriorated host pipe to keep doing all the work.

NASSCO states that a properly designed, installed, and tested CIPP lateral has a minimum life expectancy of 50 years. U.S. EPA long-term evaluations of in-service CIPP have also produced results consistent with reaching the industry's typical 50-year design-life benchmark and potentially performing beyond it.

Bluelight's manufacturer likewise describes the finished liner system as having a service life of at least 50 years.

50+ YEAR EXPECTED LIFE

A properly designed, installed, and tested CIPP lateral is expected to provide at least 50 years of service under appropriate conditions.

STRUCTURAL RENEWAL

For qualifying projects, CIPP can be engineered as a fully structural stand-alone pipe-within-a-pipe rather than relying on a deteriorated host pipe for structural support.

CONTINUOUS + JOINTLESS

The cured liner forms a continuous, jointless pipe through the rehabilitated segment, eliminating the old pipe joints from the lined flow path.

PROVEN OVER DECADES

CIPP has been used for more than 50 years, and long-term field evaluations continue to support the industry's 50+ year design-life benchmark.

THE OLD PIPE CAN STAY. THE NEW LINER DOES THE WORK.

Instead of excavating and replacing an entire aging sewer line, qualifying CIPP projects can renew the damaged pipe from the inside—creating a new structural system designed to provide decades of additional service.

SEE HOW CIPP RENEWS YOUR SEWER LINE

Expected service life is an engineering and performance benchmark, not a guarantee of a specific lifespan. Actual performance depends on liner design, host-pipe condition, installation quality, use, maintenance, external loads, soil and groundwater conditions, and other project-specific factors. Service-life statements are based on published NASSCO guidance, U.S. EPA CIPP performance research, and Bluelight manufacturer information.

Warning Signs

When to have your sewer line evaluated

Slow drains, recurring backups, persistent odors, and unusual yard conditions can be signs of a sewer-line problem, but symptoms alone do not identify the cause. A camera evaluation can help determine whether the issue involves a blockage, roots, pipe damage, alignment, or another condition.

Gurgling drains or toilets

Gurgling can occur when air is displaced by restricted flow or a venting problem. When it happens at several fixtures, the main sewer line should be evaluated.

Slow drains in multiple fixtures

When several fixtures drain slowly at the same time, the problem may be farther downstream in the main sewer line rather than at one sink, tub, or toilet.

Persistent sewer odors

Sewer odors can come from dry traps, failed seals, venting problems, blockages, or damaged piping. An inspection is needed to identify the source.

Water backing up

Wastewater appearing in tubs, showers, floor drains, or lower-level fixtures can indicate a serious restriction. Limit water use and arrange prompt service.

Wet, unusually green, or sunken areas

Changes in the yard can have several causes. When they appear near the sewer path, especially with odors or recurring drainage problems, the line should be checked.

The same clog keeps returning

Recurring stoppages may be caused by roots, scale, offsets, bellies, buildup, or pipe deterioration. Camera footage can help identify what is actually happening.

01

Protect more of the property

When conditions allow, lining can preserve more of your lawn, driveway, patio, landscaping, and other finished surfaces.

02

Reduce project disruption

Many CIPP projects can be completed in less time than full excavation, depending on cleaning, access, curing, and branch reinstatement needs.

03

Limit restoration work

Less excavation may reduce the time and cost of replacing concrete, sod, landscaping, flooring, or other disturbed surfaces.

04

Rehabilitate the existing pipe

CIPP forms a continuous liner inside an eligible host pipe. Suitability depends on the pipe’s material, diameter, alignment, structural condition, and access.

Method Comparison

Trenchless vs. digging

CIPP lining and traditional excavation can both be appropriate, but they solve different pipe conditions. We use camera footage, access, alignment, slope, and structural condition to determine whether a line can be rehabilitated or should be excavated and replaced.

Understanding Cost

What affects the cost of a sewer-lining project

Every project is priced from its actual scope. Camera findings, pipe dimensions, cleaning and preparation, access, branch connections, inspections, and any excavation or restoration needs can all affect the final price.

After the line is evaluated, we provide a project-specific scope and price. When CIPP avoids extensive excavation, it may also reduce related surface-restoration work, but the appropriate method and total cost depend on the property and pipe condition.
